I’ve always tried to find different drinks to keep myself hydrated during my training as plain water can get really boring sometimes, so I usually go for a drink which is loaded with electrolytes to ensure that I don’t dehydrate during my hectic training sessions.
When I receive this carton of coconut water, I knew that I was in for a treat as coconut water is a great source of electrolytes which are essential for sportsmen like me. I personally love the taste of coconut water so I was really happy when I received this from Vita Coco!
If you are also looking for a good source for hydration during sports, or love drinking coconut water in general, then read on for my honest review of Vita Coco’s coconut water. 🙂
I’ve drank many different types of coconut water before, but they mostly revolve around Thailand’s mini coconut (photo above) which are about $2 per coconut and Singapore coconuts – the really huge green ones that we can get from east coast park which are $2 if I’m not wrong.
So the difference between the Thai coconut and the Singapore coconut is that the Thailand one has a ‘stronger’ coconut taste (if you’ve drank it before you’ll know what I mean) whereas the Singapore one has a more ‘bland’ taste, which is refreshing after a meal at East Coast Park, so it really depends on what I feel like drinking on that day itself before making a decision on which to purchase.
To give you an idea about how Vita Coco’s coconut water taste like – it kinda feels like they got their coconuts fresh from the beach at East Coast Park and poured the coconut water into the packet directly to ensure freshness.
So if it taste exactly like the coconuts we buy at East Coast Park, why not just buy it directly from East Coast Park?
The problem with those East Coast Park Coconuts is that you can only buy them at East Coast Park, which may be really troublesome. It’s also really big so it’s impossible to buy a few and keep it in your fridge at home.
Vita Coco’s coconut water is conveniently packed into 330ml tetrapaks which are lightweight and really handy to carry around, so it will not be a hassle to buy a few and keep it in your fridge.
Instead of having to buy them every single day, we can just take it from the fridge and enjoy coconut water every day. Imagine putting 12 of those Singapore coconuts in your fridge… I think you would have to buy another fridge specially for that.
Packing coconut water into tetrapaks like these really saves a lot of time for me especially when time is not usually on my side. Also, it would look really ridiculous for me if I were to bring a whole coconut to drink during training. So with Vita Coco, I am still able to enjoy all the benefits of coconut water in a packet without going through the hassle of buying a real coconut.
I also realize that there have been a lot of discussion about the benefits of coconut water lately, I’ve not exactly read each and everyone of them, but here are some benefits of Vita Coco’s coconut water: you’ll be able to levitate objects like how I did after drinking them… (just kidding, my real name is actually Pang Sheng Copperfield, that was why I was able to levitate that coconut water packet)
In all seriousness, here are the real benefits:
- All Natural – Like I said it tasted exactly like the coconut I usually buy from East Coast Park
- Five Essential Electrolytes to help with hydration (More electrolytes than 15 Sports Drinks) – Potassium , Magnesium, Sodium, Phosphorous, Calcium. I wouldn’t have to worry about dehydration during training with these natural occurring electrolytes!
- More potassium than a Banana which will help prevent cramps. Muscle cramps are an athlete’s worst enemy, but I can now bid farewell to these cramps thanks to the loaded potassium in Vitacoco’s coconut water! I’ll be able to enjoy coconut water before, during, and after training.
- Zero Fat, Zero Cholesterol
- Low in Calories
- If you want to be healthy but still enjoy life at the same time, you can drink this
Every packet of Vita Coco contains:
- Natural Coconut Water
- Less than 1% Natural Fruit Sugar (from natural sources like apples and pears)
- Vitamin C
All in all, after trying Vita Coco’s coconut water during and after my training, I can honestly say that I’m hooked onto it. It’s just so refreshing to have a 330ml pack especially in such a hot and humid environment in Singapore. The best part is that it not only taste good, but it is good for health as well! So I can enjoy every tetrapak of coconut water without worrying about any consequences. (I usually worry a lot a little eating my cheat meals). The only down side to it is that I already finished my first carton of 12 tetrapaks, and it’s only been 6 days since I got my first carton, so at the rate that I’m drinking the coconut water, it would definitely be a huge investment for me if I were to continue drinking this. But you can’t really blame me on that, each pack just taste super refreshing!
If you’re looking for a refreshing drink to help you hydrate before, during or after sports to help replenish electrolytes and prevent cramps, I would recommend you trying out Vita Coco’s coconut water! It taste really refreshing and it’s easy to carry around, which really makes it suitable for sportsmen like me as I’m always constantly in a rush for time, so I don’t always have the luxury to go to grab a real coconut.
The 330ml Vita Coco Tetrapak (the ones that I’m drinking) retails at $1.90 and the 1L Vita Coco retails at $4.95. Available at all major supermarkets and convenience stores and even at Golden Village!
